Brief car chase in Waterford leads to one arrest, search for another suspect

Waterford — A brief car chase that started on Route 32 Wednesday night led to the arrest of the driver while a passenger remains at large.

Waterford Police Lt. Stephen Bellos said the car chase lasted less than a minute. He said the car was stopped on Route 32 when the car slowed down and then sped up again. The driver drove the car onto Old Norwich Road and then stopped on Northwood Road.

The incident was reported shortly after 9 p.m.

Bellos said the passenger, who police thought had a gun, fled the scene and remains at large.

The driver, Isam Bryant, 24, of 7 Sullivan Drive, Norwich, was charged with driving under suspension, disobeying an officer's signal, speeding, failure to obey a traffic signal and interfering with police.

Bryant is being held on a $2,500 bond, pending his arraignment today in Superior Court in New London.
