Quaker Hill couple among Red Cross volunteers headed to Texas

A Quaker Hill couple is among the Red Cross volunteers from Connecticut headed to Texas this week to help in a relief operation for the people affected by severe weather.

Ginny and Ira Haas of the Quaker Hill section of Waterford, along with George Egan of Madison, will join with four others who left for Texas last week and will serve in casework roles, meeting with families, planning their recovery and identifying additional sources of help, Red Cross spokesman Paul Shipman said in a statement.

The Red Cross has opened a shelter, provided food for evacuees and delivered means and cleanup supplies in neighborhoods affected by tornado or flood damage.

“We are so proud of the local Red Cross team members who have taken time from home, family and work to help our neighbors in Texas,” Shipman said.
