Lebanon man to serve six years for molesting girl, attacking mother

A 32-year-old Lebanon man was sentenced to six years in prison followed by 20 years of probation Tuesday for sexually assaulting a young girl and attacking the victim’s mother when she confronted him in March 2014.

Patrick J. Heath Jr. had pleaded guilty in New London Superior Court to risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

He accepted a plea offer from prosecutor Theresa Anne Ferryman involving a sentence of 20 years in prison, suspended after six years served, followed by 20 years of probation.

He will be on strict probation upon his release from prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for the first decade.

According to court documents, Heath molested a 4-year-old girl he knew.

Confronted by the child’s mother on March 30, 2014, he pointed a loaded shotgun at her head, attempted to strangle her and, as she fled, drove toward her at a high speed as if he were going to run her over.

Heath was captured in a heavily wooded area in Columbia, Conn., after a daylong manhunt that included ground and aerial searches using K-9 teams and the state police helicopter.

Defense attorney M. Fred DeCaprio had worked out the plea agreement with the prosecutor and Judge Hillary B. Strackbein.

“I’m willing to accept this to avoid having the victim testify,” Strackbein said.
