Police release names of adults charged in Waterford High School fight

Waterford — Police on Tuesday morning released the names of the three adults involved in a fight involving both adults and minors from Waterford and Stonington that occurred outside Waterford High School last week.

Victor Lopez, 18, of 21 Uncas Ave., Waterford, and Tymar Jaynes, 19, of 12 Giovanni Drive, Waterford, were charged with breach of peace. Both are Waterford students, and both were released from custody on a promise to appear in court March 8.

Stephon Hodge, 18, of 117 Hewitt Road, Mystic, also was charged with breach of peace. Hodge, who is not a student at either Stonington High School or Waterford High School, also was released on a promise to appear in court March 8.

Police said 12 minors — eight from Stonington and four from Waterford — face varying charges.

Two of the Stonington High School minors were charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to police. One of them also was charged with inciting to riot.

Police said the other six were charged with breach of peace, a misdemeanor.

Two minors from Waterford High School were charged with breach of peace and inciting to riot, while two additional Waterford minors were charged with breach of peace, police said.

Police do not publicly release the names of anyone charged with a crime who is 17 or younger except those charged with serious crimes such as first-degree sexual assault and murder.

At 3:52 p.m. last Thursday, a caller reported that several cars with Stonington High School students — who were allegedly aiming to fight the Waterford students — had arrived at the Waterford High School parking lot, according to Waterford police.

The students left after a Waterford High School staff member instructed them to do so.

But at 4 p.m. a high school staff member reported that 20 students, from both schools, were fighting by the Miner Lane entrance to the school.

Police said when they arrived, the fighting stopped.

The previous evening, a Stonington student had been ejected from a basketball game between the two schools at Waterford High School for throwing a water bottle onto the court and striking a student.
