East Lyme — Three officers at the York Correctional Institution in Niantic were injured Wednesday morning while restraining a combative inmate, according to the facility's public information office.

All three were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment, the office stated in an email Wednesday afternoon.

The facility reported that one officer sustained a leg injury, a second injured an ankle and the third was punched in the face.

An inmate was also transported to the hospital as a precaution after evaluation by medical staff on site.

The facility was temporarily placed on lockdown status, and the Connecticut State Police have been contacted to pursue criminal charges against the inmate, according to the office.
