Norwich — Police on Tuesday morning arrested three men in connection with the fentanyl-laced heroin they said led to two overdoses, one of which was fatal, in the city on Saturday.

Jonathon Fisher, 34, of 28 Summer St., Norwich, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joseph Hirschfeld, 19, of 28 Summer St., Norwich, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Raymond Belardo, 37, of 58 Noble Hill Road, Oakdale, was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they made the arrests at a hotel after an investigation into fentanyl-laced heroin sold in white glassline bags bearing a red ladybug stamp. Both of Saturday's overdoses — one an 18-year-old man who died and the other a 21-year-old woman — stemmed from heroin from such bags, police said.

Police did not clarify at which hotel the arrests were made.

Police said they found and seized more than 300 bags of heroin, more than 400 Xanax pills, more than one pound of marijuana, a scale, packaging material and $2,000 cash during their investigation.

Investigators also located hundreds of empty ladybug-stamped bags, according to police. Police said they believe the arrestees had removed heroin from the stamped bags and repackaged it into plain white ones.

Belardo was released from custody after posting a $5,000 nonsurety bond. He's scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court April 28.

Fisher and Hirschfeld each were held on $100,000 bonds. They are scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court Wednesday.

The Regional Community Enhancement Task Force assisted in the investigation.
