Stonington police charge highway department employee with assaulting landscaper

Stonington -- Police charged a veteran town highway department employee Saturday with assaulting a landscaper during a June 23 on-the-job altercation on Prentice Williams Road.

Timothy T. Keena, 57, of 11 Stewart Road, Pawcatuck, turned himself in to police Saturday morning after police alerted him there was a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with third-degree assault. He was released on a promise to appear in New London Court July 18.

Keena declined to comment about his arrest on Sunday. First Selectman Rob Simmons could not be reached for comment about Keena’s employment status.

Capt. Todd Olson said Sunday that police interviewed all town employees who were at the scene of the incident before applying for an arrest warrant. Police had no other details about Keena’s arrest.

The incident occurred at 11:25 a.m. while town employees were working on a paving project on Prentice Williams Road which is off Pequot Trail in Old Mystic. That’s when police said Keena became embroiled in a dispute with landscaper Morgan S. Dean, 36, of 29 Clarks Falls Road in North Stonington who was working at a home along the street. A fight ensued and Dean, Keena and another town employee were injured.

Stonington police have charged Dean with breach of peace, third-degree assault and second-degree assault. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on a $5,000 bond. He is next slated to appear in court on Aug. 5. Olson said no other arrests are expected.
