Ledyard – Firefighters are working to put out a brush fire that is burning on about a 5-acre wooded area off Long Cove Road, Ledyard Police Chief John Rich said Monday.

The fire is burning near the intersection of Long Cove Road and Hyde Park Drive.

Heavy wind is making fighting the fire difficult, Rich said.

Officials have not closed any roads or changed traffic patterns in the area, but they may do so this afternoon if needed, he said.

Mutual aid firefighters are responding to the scene. The fire department has not called for any buildings in the area to be evacuated, he said.
