Man hangs from fifth floor of Foxwoods parking garage Saturday night after fleeing from police

Mashantucket — A man pursued by police for allegedly passing a counterfeit bill, fled and then hung by his arms from the fifth floor of the Fox Tower parking garage Saturday night.

The man, Ifedigbo Obiakaor, 29, of no certain address, was convinced by police to pull himself up and was later taken to The William W. Backus Hospital for an evaluation.

At around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, police said Obiakaor attempted to pass the counterfeit bill at the Fox Tower. As Tribal Police police were en route, he left the security podium and ascended the parking garage.

Pursued by police to the fifth floor of the garage, Obiakaor jumped over the wall and grabbed onto the edge, his body supported by the wide wall but his legs hanging over the nearly 90-foot drop, said Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Chief William Dittman.

Tribal police talked with him for between 10 and 15 minutes, and convinced him to pull himself onto the wall.

State Police and a police negotiator were notified and alongside Tribal Police Sgt. Andre Parker, convinced him to come down.

At around 10:52 p.m. he was transported to the hospital.

Following the evaluation, he was arrested by Mashantucket Tribal Police. Records show that Mohegan Tribal police have an arrest warrant for Obiakaor in connection with another  incident.  Further charges are expected, Dittman said.
