New London police, fire, schools team up for toy drive

New London — Members of the city’s police and fire unions on Saturday will be collecting toys outside Toys R Us in Waterford to help the children of families in need, according to a news release.

Police and fire officials are teaming up with New London schools’ Chef Tomm Johnson for the event, which will last from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers are asking people to bring unwrapped toys or cash so they can help the children of a number of New London families they’ve determined are in need.

“New London’s public safety agencies believe in helping those in need and are proud to be involved in this event,” firefighter Joe Nott said in the release.

Toys R Us is located at 5 Dayton Road.
