Suspected serial burglar facing more charges out of East Lyme

East Lyme — A New London man already facing charges stemming from more than 10 burglaries in four area towns has been charged in connection with four more.

Isaiah L. Prue, 28, whose last known address was 22 Amity St., Apt. A, was charged Tuesday with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, second-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and first-degree criminal mischief.

According to Det. Mark Comeau, the burglaries occurred in clusters in the Attawan Beach and Chesterfield Road areas of Niantic and East Lyme during a one-month span last year.

On Aug. 25, four homes or vehicles were hit. On Sept. 22, seven were targeted, and on Sept. 25, four more. Comeau said last year that police recovered only a “minimal amount” of the items that were stolen.

East Lyme police first arrested Prue on Sept. 25, when they allegedly caught him in the middle of attempting to break in to a home on Old Black Point Road. He has been incarcerated ever since.

Other towns that have since charged him for burglaries include Ledyard, Norwich, Montville and Stonington.

Prue previously told police he has been breaking into houses and cars for years “just for money,” not to fuel a drug habit. He laughed when he told Comeau about how many people leave their homes and cars unlocked, according to Comeau.

The recent charges from East Lyme police came with a bond of $150,000, which Prue has not posted. His next court date for his six pending cases is July 26.
