East Lyme police arrest suspect in 12 area burglaries

East Lyme — Police arrested a man Sunday suspected of committing a dozen burglaries in several towns as he attempted to illegally enter a house on Old Black Point Road, just hours after another burglary in which he is a suspect.

Isaiah Lemar Prue, 27, of 22 Amity St., New London, is facing three burglary charges after a Bellaire Road resident in the Black Point neighborhood reported that she had been woken up about 4:30 a.m. Sunday by a flashlight beam coming through the window and that she had heard noises in the yard.

Police responded and found a vehicle they believed to be connected to the crime on Nehantic Drive. They also found personal belongings strewn on East Shore and an unoccupied house with a kicked-in door.

About two hours later, another resident reported seeing a person near Woodland Drive and Ridge Trail running into the woods. Police found Prue attempting to enter another house on Old Black Point Road and arrested him without incident.

Police linked Prue to several residential burglaries in the last month in multiple towns including East Lyme and Stonington, they said in a news release Sunday night.

Prue is charged with second- and third-degree burglary, third-degree burglary from a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny.

The arrest and investigation have allowed East Lyme and Stonington police to resolve 12 residential burglaries in those towns, in addition to several thefts from cars.

Police said they expect to arrest more people in connection with the string of burglaries.
