    East Lyme police arrest two on drug-related charges

    East Lyme — Police said they charged two people after finding heroin and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle that was stopped for an equipment failure about 7:38 p.m. Thursday on West Main Street.

    According to the police report, the driver of the car, Steven Stiegler, 38, of 48 Chittenden Hill Road, Clinton, was driving with a suspended license, while Haley K. Balon, 22, of 86 North Bridebrook Road, Niantic, admitted to police to having drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

    Police said they searched the vehicle and found a glass crack cocaine pipe, 13 bags of heroin, 5 prescription Suboxone films, used hypodermic needles and two plastic spoons containing powder residue.

    Balon was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Stiegler was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics out of its original container, driving while under suspension and failure to have stop lamps.

    Police said they were each released on $500 nonsurety bonds and were both scheduled to appear Aug. 3 in New London Superior Court.
