East Lyme police: Speeding driver had stolen items

East Lyme — Town police said they discovered stolen items after stopping a speeding vehicle on Chesterfield Road early Friday morning.

The items had been stolen from vehicles in another town, police said.

Police spotted the speeding vehicle while monitoring traffic on Route 161, and stopped the vehicle after it illegally passed another vehicle, they said. The 17-year-old driver, who was not named because of his or her age, was charged with speeding, illegal passing, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

Town police are helping state police from Troop K in Colchester investigate the stolen items and any possible connection to additional crimes.
