East Lyme — Stemming from the Wednesday execution of a search warrant at a Sandpiper Lane residence, police said they made two unexpected, drug-related arrests.

According to police, officers went to the residence about 2 p.m. Wednesday with Waterford and Montville K-9 teams on hand. Shortly after their arrival, police learned two women had just left the residence in a vehicle a rental company had been trying to retrieve.

Police said they located the vehicle parked at the Shell gas station on Boston Post Road and approached it. Inside they found Melissa Williamson, 34, of 7 Sandpiper Lane and Katelyn Vitkauskas, 29, of 3 Jefferson Drive.

According to police, Williamson was “making furtive movements” inside her sweatshirt. Officers searched the car and allegedly found both women in possession of narcotics.

Police charged Williamson with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. Released on a $25,000 surety bond, she is due in New London Superior Court on Jan. 17.

Vitkauskas is facing two counts of possession of narcotics and failure to keep a narcotic in its original container. Vitkauskas, who posted a $10,000 nonsurety bond, is due in court Jan. 18.
