US Coast Guard locates, rescues missing 80-year-old mariner
LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it rescued an 80-year-old sailor who was reported missing on his way to port in Massachusetts.
The Coast Guard said it began searching Buzzards Bay for Peter Horan and his 34-foot cabin cruiser Best Friends after receiving a call from his caretaker Monday. Horan and his boat were later found in the area of the Sakonnet River following a radio hail to search crews Monday evening.
A 45-foot response boat then located Horan and brought him to Sakonnet Harbor in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Horan's family and emergency medical services were there waiting for him.
The Coast Guard said crews searched an area the size of New York City to find Horan.
