HARTFORD, Conn. — Forty-six students who were brought to the United States as children have been granted scholarships to attend Eastern Connecticut State University in the fall.

Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, announced on Tuesday the recipients of the Opportunity Scholarship, which is available to students who are in the country without legal permission.

CSCU has partnered with TheDream.US, a national scholarship fund for students who are sometimes referred to as Dreamers.

CSCU says recipients are primarily from "locked-out" states where they are required to pay out-of-state tuition or are prohibited from enrolling in their state's colleges and universities altogether.

Scholarships will cover up to $20,000 per year for the out-of-state costs of tuition, fees and on-campus housing and $7,250 per year for in-state costs at the university.
