    Huskies need time to heal

UConn's Ryan Boatright, left, may miss Friday's nonleague game against Yale, but X-rays on Boatright's injured left ankle showed no structural damage, according to the school.

UConn received some relatively good news regarding leading scorer Ryan Boatright's injury.

X-rays taken Monday ruled out any structural damage, according to UConn. He's dealing with a sprained left ankle.

Whether Boatright, a senior guard, will be ready to play in Friday's nonconference game against Yale in Storrs is still up in the air.

Boatright sat out practice on Tuesday and wore a walking boot. He received treatment and attempted some walking drills.

UConn will continue to evaluate Boatright, who suffered the injury in the final seconds of Sunday's loss to Texas, on a daily basis.

If Boatright is unable to practice over the next two days, it's highly unlikely he'll play Friday. He's never missed a game due to injury during his career.

The other two members of UConn's injury squad are making progress.

Rodney Purvis did some light shooting on Tuesday but didn't work out with the team. His injury, a high left ankle sprain, happened in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Championship game on Nov. 23 and kept him out of the Texas game. He watched from the bench, wearing a walking boot.

If all goes well with his recovery process, Purvis may participate in some practice drills today and then increase activity Thursday. But his status is still unknown for Friday's game.

Omar Calhoun has been sidelined the longest, spraining his right MCL in practice in late October, but may be the closest of three to being available to play against Yale.

Calhoun, a junior guard, practiced with the Huskies on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, he'll likely practice today and Thursday. If his knee is at 100 percent after the two workouts, he could be in uniform Friday, according to UConn.

The Huskies are hurting in the backcourt without the three guards. Only sophomore Terrence Samuel and redshirt sophomore Sam Cassell Jr. are healthy. Freshman swingman Daniel Hamilton is another option for backcourt duty.

In all likelihood, UConn will be shorthanded again on Friday, or at the very least not running at full speed.

The schedule is working in their favor, as the Huskies begin a lengthy exam break after hosting Yale, returning to action Dec. 14 against Coppin State.

UConn (3-2) is trying to avoid losing three in a row for the first time since falling to Georgetown, Cincinnati and South Florida near the end of the 2012-13 regular season.
