    Ollie raves about transfer trio

UConn officially announced three new additions to the men's basketball family.

Transfers Sterling Gibbs, Shonn Miller and Terry Larrier all recently gave commitments to the Huskies and signed a financial aid agreement with the school.

Gibbs, a 6-foot-2 point guard, and Miller, 6-7 forward, will be eligible to play this season as graduate students. Both players have one year of eligibility remaining.

Larrier, a 6-5 swingman who played last season at Virginia Commonwealth, will sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules but will be able to practice with the team.

In a press release, coach Kevin Ollie commented for the first time about his three incoming players.

"Along with being high quality players, they are young men of high character who also bring a level of maturity and experience with them," Ollie said.

Gibbs spent the last two seasons at Seton Hall. He was a second team All-Big East selection last season, averaging 16.7 points and 3.8 assists while shooting 43.8 percent from 3-point range.

"What Sterling brings is experience, playing so well in the Big East with his great scoring ability and his leadership ability and just being a tough player," Ollie said. "For him to come here and fill a spot that we need, especially with his shooting range, is big time."

Miller earned All-Ivy League first team status for the last two years at Cornell. He sat out the 2013-14 season after off-season shoulder surgery. He ranked second in the league in scoring (16.8), rebounding (8.5) and free throw percentage (83.4 percent) last season.

"Shonn's explosiveness and his versatility, being able to play multiple positions, will be a big factor for us," Ollie said. "He rebounded at a high rate last year in the Ivy League and we all think that can translate to any league. Plus, he has the shooting ability to be able to score from different areas of the court."

Larrier will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He averaged 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 36 games as a freshman at VCU.

"Terry will add something that we talk about all the time – versatility," Ollie said.

UConn's recruiting class also includes point guard Jalen Adams and forward Steven Enoch, who attended Brewster Academy and St. Thomas More, respectively.
