    Local roundup: Staten Island rolls past Tigers 6-2

    New York — The Staten Island Yankees continued their dominance of the Connecticut Tigers with a 6-2 victory on Monday night in a New York-Penn League game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

    The Yankees (36-32) have won all five meetings between the two teams and will go for a sweep of the season series on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

    Eduardo de Oleo and Junior Valera hit solo home runs for Staten Island while Tyler Servais and Will Allen drove in runs with base hits for the Tigers (31-34). Allen was 2-for-4 and now has 26 RBI.

    Kolton Mahoney (3-2) pitched seven strong innings for the win, allowing just one run on four hits while stiking out six. 

    NECBL all-stars

    • The Mystic Schooners placed a league-best five players on the All New England Collegiate Baseball League teams. Outfielder Ben Ruta (Wagner) earned a spot on the first team while St. Bernard School graduate Willie Rios and Fitch graduate Aaron Hill of UConn made the second team at pitcher and shortstop, respectively. Third baseman Rich Slenker (Yale) and designated hitter Dan Hoy also were on the second team for the Schooners, who set a franchise record for wins and reached the NECBL championship series for the first time.
