East Lyme — Will Anglin and Gavin O'Brien scored 20 points each as East Lyme beat New London 63-56 on Thursday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game, the opening night of the high school boys' basketball season.

Rhodia Perry had a game-high 31 points for New London and teammate Savahn Warren scored 10. 

In other games:

• Javen Foster had 17 points and 12 rebounds as Norwich Free Academy defeated Classical (R.I.) 61-55. Nazir Rembert had 15 points in the win, including three 3-pointers, Tyrone Cummings 14 points and nine rebounds and Tony Williams 10 points and five steals. NFA trailed 19-11 after one quarter and 31-26 at halftime, but outscored Classical 22-8 in the third period.

• Sean O'Connell lifted Waterford to a victory in its season opener, finishing with 23 points and 12 rebounds and the Lancers topped Woodstock Academy 60-48 in an ECC Division II game. Nolan Gollsneider added 12 points for Waterford, which led just 27-26 at halftime, but outscored the Centaurs 23-5 in the third quarter to open up the lead. Ethan Davis had 14 points to lead Woodstock.

• Elijah Black scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, as Bacon Academy beat Windham 72-40. Luke Grimord had 12 points and Sam Blumberger and Quinn Johnson each scored 10 for Bacon. Zach Robinson-Smey led Windham with 16 points. 

• Maverick Swaney had 24 points and six rebounds for Old Lyme in an 81-71 victory over Coginchaug. Caden Monte added 19 points and eight rebounds in the victory, Nick Cox 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals and John Almy eight points, five rebounds and six assists. Jayson Penney led Coginchaug with 25 points.

H.S. girls' basketball

• Clare Inyang had 10 points and 17 rebounds for Ledyard, one of four players in double figures, as the Colonels topped Killingly 59-46 in an ECC Division II game. Kiera Kirvan had 12 points, Tallie Williams 10 points and seven rebounds and Cierra Bravar 10 points for Ledyard (2-0, 1-0). Hannah Grudzien had 17 points for Killingly.

• Valerie Luizzi (31 points) and Marissa Nudd (29) each had career highs as Bacon Academy defeated Waterford 73-58 in an ECC Division II matchup. Luizzi scored 24 in the first half, including six 3-pointers for Bacon (2-0, 1-0). The six 3s ties the Bobcats' single-game record. Milena Walker, meanwhile — coming off a 28-point performance in Monday's opener against New London — had 33 points and 19 rebounds for Waterford (0-2, 0-1) and Sophia Hathaway had 13 points.

• Coginchaug's Chloe Shafir had 19 points in a 50-42 Shoreline Conference victory over Old Lyme. Kate Walsh had 13 points for Old Lyme in what was the Wildcats' opener, Ali Kyle had eight points and Alexis Fenton six. Coginchaug is 2-0.

• Sophia Boras scored 19 points and Angelica Tompkins 11 in St. Bernard's 34-29 win over Wheeler in ECC Division IV. Addie Hauptmann had nine points, 12 rebounds and two steals for Wheeler (0-2, 0-1) and Marissa Perkins had 13 points and six rebounds. St. Bernard is 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the division.

Men's basketball

• Mikey Buscetto and Jalen Benson scored 23 points each as Mitchell College beat Albertus Magnus 94-89. Alfonzo Stokes had 12 points and Jacob Narvaez and Dontae Pollard each scored 11 for Mitchell (4-7). Buscetto had six assists, seven rebounds and four steals and Narvaez had nine rebounds.

H.S. hockey

• The Eastern CT Eagles opened their season with an 8-3 loss at Woodstock Academy on Wednesday night. Dylan Relaz scored all three goals for the Eagles and Drew Sager, Gavin Casagrande and Cade Waters had assists. Nate Pratt and Cam McCollum combined for 18 saves for the Eagles.

New London H.S. ticket policy

• New London High School announced its ticket policies for boys' and girls' basketball games, wrestling and fencing for the winter season. For each event at the Whalers' Conway Gymnasium, there will be 50 tickets designated for home team families and 50 for visiting team families, as well as 700 additional tickets sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Face masks must be worn by fans at all times. There is no re-entry into the building after departure. Each event will be livestreamed by the NFHS Network.

"These fan expectations and spectator parameters are in place to attempt to ensure our student-athletes the best chance to complete their seasons without disruptions," New London athletic director Phil Orbe said in a press release. "We appreciate our Whaler fans' willingness in assisting us in this goal." 

College honors

• Coast Guard's Paul Detwiler has been named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week following the Bears' victory over Johnson and Wales last Friday night. In a matchup of nationally-ranked wrestlers, Detwiler, ranked second nationally, remained unbeaten and dominated Ryan Devivo of Johnson and Wales, ranked seventh, winning a 20-7 major decision to tie the match at 4-4. Coast Guard went on to defeat Johnson and Wales 24-14 for the first time in 20 years.
