The column, “An emoluments hearing: Can Trump flout the Constitution?” (June 9), makes me think you haven’t been paying attention. More like “Can Congress ignore Trump flouting the Constitution,” which is rendered moot when this Republican Congress is more concerned with retaining their jobs than actually doing their jobs.

The emoluments clause is a firewall to prevent presidential profiteering that “every president until this one has complied with.” President 

Trump and his children who work in the executive branch have no reason to divest, eliminate conflicts of interest or even consider appearances as they gorgeat the trough. See EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s $43,000 sound proof phone booth even if you can’t hear him.

Our Constitution provides for three equal branches of government, not one ruling monarchy whose legal team now pushes Trump’s not above the law, he is the law nonsense. It’s no wonder that after only one short year it felt like the longest 365 days in history.
