    H.S. wrestling: Fitch's Kosman wins second straight Class L title

    Bristol — Fitch's Jarod Kosman captured his second straight state title at CIAC Class L wrestling tournament on Saturday at Bristol Central High School.

    Kosman, last year's 106-pound champion, moved up to win the 113-pound title this year. The senior defeated Bristol Eastern's Jordan Champagne 4-1 in the championship match.

    Teammate Dakota Grover was also victorious, pinning Farmington's Muhil Saravana in 3 minutes, 22 seconds at 220.

    The Falcons finished 10th in the team race with 98.5, well off the pace set by champion Bristol Eastern's total of 231. Fitch did have two other place-winners as Austin Robertson (145) beat Notre Dame of West Haven's Connor Massey 8-5 in the third-place consolation final while Keith McDonald (142) finished fourth.

    In other meets:

    • New London, which won its first Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I title last week, followed that up with a solid fifth-place showing in the Class M tournament at Guilford. The Whalers finished with 115.5 points. Foran won the team title with 236 points while Waterford (108) tied Avon for seventh.

    New London's Jacob Commander (195) and Waterford's Logan Smith (106) won individual titles. Commander pinned East Haven's Josh Rao in 1:55 to win his first state title while Smith successfully defended his championship with a 9-7 overtime win over Killingly's Dan Charron in a rematch of last week's ECC final.

    Also for the Whalers, Naaji Powell-Keyton (106) pinned Barlow's Joshua Brault in 2:58 to place third, while Max Commander (132) and Noah Kimball (220) each finished fifth and Luis Rodriguez-Veras placed sixth.

    A.J. Sachatello (132) finished fourth for the Lancers while Eric Zane (120) wound up fifth. In addition, East Lyme's Everett Minevich (152) lost in the final to Killingly's Zach Burgess 5-0 while St. Bernard/Norwich Tech's Roark Ryan (285) finished fourth.

    • Norwich Free Academy had four place-winners in the Class LL tournament at Trumbull, which was won again by Danbury with 274 points. The Wildcats were 13th with 67.5 points. Theran Vanase (152), Marc Thelusma (182) and Kamren Snodgrass (220) each finished fifth while Dominic Renfree (120) placed sixth.
