Capasso named Waterford High School girls' hoop coach

Mark Capasso has returned to coaching basketball at Waterford High School.

Capasso was named head coach of the Lancers girls’ basketball team on Monday, eight years after he had coached the boys’ basketball program. Capasso led the boys for two seasons and coached them to their first CIAC basketball final. He resigned after the 2007 due to health reasons, but had been coaching the girls’ basketball team at Clark Lane Middle School for several years.

“If I was ever going to (coach) again, this is a good time to do it because I know most of them,” Capasso said. “I’ve pretty much coached all of them, and that’s what piqued my interest in coming back.”

Capasso replaces Ed Kolnaski, who was head coach for two seasons. The Lancers finished 17-8 this past season and advanced to the Class M quarterfinals.
