North Stonington — Chris Moore, vineyard manager at Jonathan Edwards Winery, was driving the tractor Wednesday as workers Danny Spurr, Kelly Orr and J. Curlando collected the harvested pinot gris grapes.
Volunteers took to the vineyards in the early morning hours to cut the grapes from the vines, and Moore and his crew were racing to bring in the grapes before any afternoon rains could damage the harvest.
Four tons of Gewürztraminer and four tons of pinot gris were harvested Tuesday with the remaining, as yet unweighed, pinot gris coming in Wednesday.
Moore says this is the "best year, best fruit ever" in his 13 years at Edwards.
