Three incoming UConn freshman named to U.S. national team

Three incoming UConn freshman were selected to the USA Basketball U18 National Team on Monday following five trial sessions at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Point guard Moriah Jefferson (Glenn Heights, Tex.), forward Breanna Stewart (North Syracuse, N.Y.) and forward Morgan Tuck (Bolingbrook, Ill.) will be part of a 12-player that will compete in the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship from Aug. 15-19 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. The three medal-winning teams will qualify for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in Lithuania.

Stewart, the reigning USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year, brings the most international experience to the team. She was the only high school player on the 2011 USA Pan American Games team, joined with Tuck to help the U.S. win the 2011 U19 World Championship in Chile, and was a member of the 2010 U17 and 2009 U16 World Championship teams.
