    North Stonington woman given conservation award

    North Stonington resident Anne Nalwalk, president of Avalonia Land Conservancy for 22 years, was recognized and received honorable mention for her outstanding work in conservation at the Women Inspiring Conservation in Connecticut awards last month at the state Capitol.

    After serving as Avalonia president, she continued as a director and member of the Stewardship and Acquisition committees, the conservancy said in a news release In addition to that, she has manned the phones, edited and contributed to the newsletter, worked the legal end of land deals and contracts and has undoubtedly hiked and explored almost every acre.

    Twelve women from throughout the state were honored during the annual awards, sponsored by the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Connecticut Association of Conservation Districts.
