New London High School’s reunion for the classes 1952 through 1959 will be held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Langley’s Restaurant, Great Neck Country Club in Waterford.

Regatta luncheon to honor pair

The deep tradition and long ties between New London and the annual Yale-Harvard regatta will be celebrated at a special luncheon featuring Olympic rower Genevra Stone at noon, Thursday, June 8 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cdr. Merle Smith consolidated club (formerly the Officers’ Club).

The event is sponsored by New London’s three service clubs, Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions. The luncheon will also honor Yale’s hugely successful coach Steve Gladstone, soon to retire.

Norwich Founders Day June 7

The 122nd meeting of the Founders of Norwich/Leffingwell House Museum will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Otis Library, 121 Main St. in downtown Norwich.

A short business meeting and review of 2022-23 by President Dayne Rugh will be followed by a presentation by Todd Keating on the Clocks and Clockmakers of Norwich. Keating is a long time researcher and collector of clocks made in the region, many specific to Norwich. He also cares for the clock collection housed at the Leffingwell House Museum and the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop.

CT Trails Day June 3-4

CT Trails Day, held on the first weekend in June every year, is the largest celebration of trails in the nation. Events are free, open to all, and guided by people who are knowledgeable about each site. Waterford resident to march in Washington

Mark A. Cassidy of Waterford, a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield, will march Monday with hundreds of veterans as part of the National Memorial Day Parade on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.

The parade is broadcast live and produced by the American Veterans Center. Cassidy is a U.S. Army veteran who fought to expel the Iraqis from Kuwait after Saddam Hussein’s 1990 invasion of the country.

Music and movement at Bill Library

Blindness fundraiser June 4

Hope in Focus, a nonprofit dedicated to finding treatments and cures for blindness caused by rare inherited retinal diseases, will host a fundraising event called A Rare Opportunity at 1:30 p.m. June 4 at United Theatre in Westerly.

Included will be a viewing of the award-winning film “A Shot in the Dark,” followed by talkback and questions with blind athlete Anthony Ferraro. The film tracks Anthony as he tries to win a state wrestling championship in his senior year of high school.

Walking Tour in Norwich June 3

The Norwich Historical Society will host a series of walking tours this summer, starting with the Ye Antient Burial Grounds of Norwich Saturday, June 3, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in honor of CT Trails Day.

Join local historian Dave Oat on a walk through the old colonial burial grounds in Norwichtown and hear about early life in Colonial Norwich. Dave will showcase the recent restoration work in the burying ground completed by Rediscovering History Inc. and funded by the Tenney Foundation. Make Music Day with the Mystic Ukulele Strummers at the Mystic & Noank Library

The Mystic Ukulele Strummers will perform at the Mystic Noank Library on Make Music Day happening June 21st! The concert begins at 6:15 PM and runs until 7 PM. Weather permitting, they will perform on the Library Lawn on the Library Street side.

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is celebrated on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries around the world.

Kora instrumentalist Sean Gaskell

Sean Gaskell features songs on the kora when he appears at East Lyme Public Library Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m.

The kora is a 21-string harp Gaskell studied in Gambia, West Africa, with masters of the kora: Malamini Jobarteh and Moriba Kuyateh. Many songs tell the story of war, hardship, love and loss while revealing the history and fabric of Mande society. Program registration is required. Visit the library website to register.

Shred Days in Norwich, North Stonington

Chelsea Groton Bank will host two secure document shredding services to help residents protect confidential information and avoid identity theft.

No-cost Shred Days are being offered Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at the bank’s Westside branch, 444 W. Main St., Norwich, and Saturday, June 17, during the same hours at the North Stonington Branch, 391 Norwich Westerly Road.

In Norwich, Easter Seals Veteran Rally Point will be on hand to collect non-perishable food items. In North Stonington, Chelsea Groton will be collecting non-perishable food items.

Services are available to members and non-members alike. Bring up to three file-sized boxes of documents, and the paper will be recycled.
