CT BHI to Launch Pennies for Research at 10th Anniversary RACE IN THE PARK

New Britain, Conn. (May 2, 2013) – It?s time to gather up your spare change and use those pennies to make a difference. Every penny counts when it comes to helping find a cure for breast cancer in Connecticut at CT Breast Health Initiative?s 10th Anniversary RACE IN THE PARK, which will take place on Saturday, May 11th at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain.

A Mother?s Day weekend tradition, CT Breast Health Initiative?s 10th Anniversary RACE IN THE PARK will serve as the kickoff location for its brand new Pennies for Research campaign, which challenges friends and family to fill a 6ft. piggy bank with pennies and other spare change to fund local breast cancer research in Connecticut.

?Beyond serving as a fundraising tool, we wanted the Pennies for Research campaign to serve as a way to educate people across Connecticut about the importance of local breast cancer research and education,? Joyce G. Bray, CT Breast Health Initiative, said. ?We are grateful to Farmington Bank, our Pennies for Research sponsor, for making the oversized piggy bank a reality and giving us a mechanism to fund more breast cancer research in Connecticut.?

Collecting pennies on RACE day will be Penny, an oversized piggy bank and the newest member of the CT Breast Health Initiative Team. Penny will greet RACE participants outside the CT Breast Health Initiative?s 10th Anniversary Tent, located in the center of the park, on May 11th. Following the RACE, Penny will travel to schools and businesses across Connecticut as part of the ongoing fundraiser.

In addition to the RACE itself and Pennies for Research kickoff, the event will feature a Survivor Brunch celebrating individuals in Connecticut who have won the fight against breast cancer and a Touch-a-Truck event sponsored by the City of New Britain. The RACE will also include expanded kids? activities and an enhanced food court highlighting food trucks from across the State.
