    Local roundup: East Lyme sweeps Guilford in volleyball

    East Lyme — Madison Bell had 15 digs and five aces as East Lyme closed out its regular season with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 win over Guilford in a nonleague volleyball match on Friday.

    Mia Patterson had seven digs, Annie Walker had 25 assists, Sydney Iannatuono had 13 kills and Megan Appleton and Gabi Murphy had seven kills each for East Lyme (9-9). 

    H.S. field hockey

    • Tayla Willson scored in overtime, assisted by Hailey Conley, to give Norwich Free Academy a 1-0 nonleague win over Danbury. Goalie Helen Heyse earned the shutout by stopping four shots for the Wildcats (8-6-1).

    H.S. swimming

    • East Lyme lost to Wethersfield in a nonleague meet, 98-82. Taylor Gray won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.47) and Victoria Chen the 100 backstroke (1:08.95) for East Lyme (14-2). The team of Mary Kathryn Taylor, Maeve Counter, Gretchen Stelter and Gray won the 400 relay for East Lyme with a time of 4:00.13.

    College field hockey

    • Freshman Barbara van den Hoogen scored twice as No. 3 UConn beat Quinnipiac 5-1. Amanda Collins, Anna Middendorf and Svea Boker also scored for the Huskies (17-1).

    Men's hockey

    • No. 7 Notre Dame scored the first five goals and went on to beat UConn 6-2 in a Hockey East game. Spencer Naas and Joseph Masonius scored for UConn (3-2-3, 1-1), who beat Notre Dame 4-2 on Thursday.

    College volleyball

    • Bowdoin swept Connecticut College 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference match. Ella Johnson had 10 kills, Katia Elisman had 16 assists and Sam Hunter had 15 digs for Conn (11-10, 4-5).
