    H.S. roundup: Norwich Tech advances to CTC softball semis

    Norwich — Hannah Smith pitched a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Norwich Tech beat Wolcott Tech 3-2 in a Connecticut Technical Conference softball tournament quarterfinal on Monday.

    The Warriors (13-7) host Platt Tech in a semifinal on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

    Stephanie Novic singled home Makenzie Jones in the bottom of the third inning to break a 2-2 tie.

    In other games:

    • Addie Hauptmann pitched a no-hitter as Wheeler beat Grasso Tech 27-0 in a five-inning non-league game. Hauptmann also had four hits, including a double and triple, drove in four runs and struck out nine. Maddie Perkins had four hits and Savannah Galluci was 4-for-5 with three RBI for Wheeler (6-11). Grasso Tech in 1-17.

    • Norwich Free Academy ended its regular season with a 10-4 win over Norwalk in a non-league game. Hailee Schrader, who tripled, and winning pitcher Bailey Comeau had three hits each for NFA (15-4). Brooke Gottshall and Hannah Daniewicz had two hits each, Sara Cote doubled and Comeau struck out 12.

    • Colette Dreher hit a grand slam and Shea O'Connor had a solo shot in a six-run sixth inning that carried Stonington to a 13-8 win over Old Lyme in a non-league game. Miranda Arruda had two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases, Maddie Mendez had a single and three-run double and Dreher had two hits for the Bears (10-10). Victoria Gage (two RBI) and Paige Kolesnik (three RBI) had three hits each for Old Lyme (12-8) and teammates Maddie Cann (two RBI), Sarah Hayward, Sadie Rubitski and Alison Ward (two runs) had two hits each.

    • Isabel Siciliano pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts as East Lyme beat Montville 2-0 in the regular-season finale for both teams. Anna Bonelli doubled and scored a run for East Lyme (10-10). Lily Corrice pitched a five-hitter for Montville (16-4).

    • Emily Nelson drove in three runs as St. Bernard beat Morgan 11-10 in a non-league game. Taina Quinones, Shania Riviere and Nelson had two hits each for the Saints (9-10), Nelson and Quinones each scored twice and Riviere drove in two runs.    

    Baseball

    • Hillhouse broke the game open with 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning and beat Grasso Tech 22-3 in a non-league game. Derek Nunez homered, singled and scored twice for Grasso (7-9).

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Fitch ended its regular season with a 14-8 non-conference win over Valley Regional. Maggie O'Leary led the Falcons (12-4) with four goals and three assists while Bridget O'Leary had three goals and one assist, Rita Sefransky had two goals and two assists, Jessica Russo had two goals and one assist, Maddie Catlett, Nora Casey and Valentina Silva each scored once and goalie Molly Bresnahan made 13 saves.

    • Maddie Pipech scored six goals as Ledyard beat Wheeler/Grasso Tech 15-3. Miranda Pearce and Sabrina Mitchell had two goals each, Missy Archer and Lexi LaPerle had a goal and an assist each and Kate English had two assists for Ledyard (6-10). Amanda Regine, Daniela Roy and Leah Pion scored for Wheeler/Grasso (1-11).

    • New London lost to Griswold 13-8 in an ECC Division III game. Emilia Skrabacz had four goals and Natalia Paul scored twice for New London (4-10, 4-6).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Ryan Kinney and Kaine Sherman had three goals and an assist each as Ledyard/Griswold beat Old Saybrook 16-5 in a non-league game. Jacob Foster scored three times, Seamus McGrath had two goals and three assists, Cameron Reynolds and Isaiah Spaulding each scored twice and Anthony Rose had a goal for Ledyard (7-9). Seth Hurt made 10 saves, including the 500th of his career, for Ledyard.

    • Montville's season ended with a 22-2 loss to Branford in a nonleague game. Brandon Pedersen and Derek Debbis scored goals and Stevie Turchetta made 19 saves for Montville (2-14).   

    Boys' golf

    • Stonington's Grant Hamilton and Jacob Geary shared medalist honors as the Bears beat Griswold 7-0. The two shot 3-over-par 40s at River Ridge Golf Course. RJ Parrilla, Justin Holland and Liz Crandall also won matches for Stonington (11-5-1).

    • Old Lyme teammates Corey Drummond and Peter Macadam scored medalist honors, each shooting a 40 at Indians Springs, as the Wildcats beat North Branford 174-251 in the Shoreline Conference. Thomas Creagan added a 43 Old Lyme.

    Girls' tennis

    • Fitch closed out its regular season with a 7-0 win over Lyman Memorial. Sam Cote, Sneha Kumar and Kavita Srirangam won their matches, losing just one game combined, and Graysen Scherer won her match by forfeit. The Falcons (13-5) also got straight-set wins from the teams of Hayden Kowalski-Haley Rodgers, Charlina Holloway-Mae Flax and Caroline Garrett-Helen Berganza.
