One final challenge
New London — The swabs of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Class of 2023 on Friday faced their Sea Trials.
The two platoons of Zulu Company are doing their Sea Trials, a series of physical, team-building challenges that marks the end of their 7-week Swab Summer indoctrination, a week earlier than the rest of their classmates because they embark on the Coast Guard training tall ship Eagle this weekend and still will be at sea next Friday, when the rest of the class members will do their Sea Trials.
Sea Trials challenges include carrying a log for a lap around the academy, paddling an inflatable raft along the Thames River, the obstacle course, a drug search simulation, drill competition and other exercises.
The swabs will receive their shoulder boards Aug. 19, officially joining the Corps of Cadets.
