Good to see fans rally behind the King

I read with interest Ned Griffen's article on Tim King, Valley Regional’s Football coach, “Players, parents upset that Valley/Old Lyme coach King being forced to resign,” (Nov. 20). I never met Mr. King but hopefully one day that will take place.

I participated in high school athletics at Waterford High School in the 1960s under the tutelage of the legendary Fran Sweeney. It is rare that coaches affect young men for life in the way that Mr. Sweeney did and apparently Mr. King does at the present.

Mr. Griffin describes players and non-players alike rallying behind Mr. King. This is indeed such a pleasure to witness. I wish Mr. King only the best in future battles on the football field and in his present disagreement with the school board.

Editor's note: Tim King will remain head coach of the Valley Regional/Old Lyme football co-op. The Regional School District No. 4 announced Monday night that it had rescinded its request that he resign.
