The annual Mystic Seaport Carol Sing takes place Sunday in south parking lot

"Silver bells / Silver bells / It's Christmas time / In the Seaport parking lot!" If that's what it takes, during COVID-19, to make sure the annual Mystic Seaport Community Carol Sing takes place, then that's what will happen.

It's the 73rd year of the Sing, and out of concern for safety, the Seaport is hosting the singalong as a drive-in event at the museum's south parking lot from 3-4 p.m. Sunday. In his regular-as-Santa fashion, the music will conducted by Jamie Spillane, director of choral studies at the University of Connecticut. He'll be accompanied a small choir and brass quartet and the event's technical team, Power Posse Productions, will broadcast the music over a low-power FM channel to the surrounding cars so folks can sing along.

Admission is an item of non-perishable food, diapers/wipes, or pet food, which will be donated to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. All attendees will also receive free admission to the museum that day. The parking lot opens at 1 p.m. and space is limited to 500 visitors in first-come/first-serve fashion. Festive decorations on vehicles are encouraged — with prizes for the most spirited autos. Mystic Seaport, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic; (860) 572-0711.
