Illustrator/cicerone Em Sauter conducts "Holiday Tap Takeover" at Jealous Monk Tuesday

    Self-portrait by Em Sauter (Submitted)

Hey, slow down with this whole food and beverage lexicon!

I've just recently mastered how to spell "hors d'oeuvres" and learned what a "sommelier" is. And now you throw "cicerone" at me — and, no, it's not the porkskin-like "chicharrón."

Apparently, a cicerone is like a sommelier only, instead of having expertise in matters of wine, he or she knows everything about beer. And to become an official cicerone, the beer enthusiast actually has to undergo and pass a certification program. (Insert "if I'd known there was a degree for drinking ..." joke here.)

Anyhoo, Advanced Cicerone (and New Britain resident) Em Sauter appears Tuesday at the Jealous Monk Beer Garden in Olde Mistick Village. She'll conduct a "Holiday Tap Takeover," an evening of holiday-themed beers and hors d'oeuvres. Bonus fun: In addition to discussing beer, Sauter is also a comic book illustrator. Her first publication, the self-illustrated "Beer is for Everyone! (of Drinking Age)," came out last year.

Holiday Tap Takeover, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jealous Monk, Olde Mistick Village, 27 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic; $30 includes beer, snacks and a signed copy of Em Sauter's "Beer is for Everyone! (of Drinking Age!); (860) 536-6665.
