'Animal Farm' returns to The Mitchell College Red Barn

Mitchell College students, along with several Flock Theatre actors, will present “Animal Farm” at The Mitchell College Red Barn starting Friday.

Last year at this time, Flock Theatre debuted its version of “Animal Farm” at The Mitchell College Red Barn. This year, Mitchell students are taking center stage in the same “Animal Farm.”

The production is the end result of an intensive course being taught at Mitchell by Flock Theatre artists Noah Todd and Victor Chiburis. A few Flock actors will be part of the cast, too, reprising their roles.

The Flock press release states, “This course and production are the next phase of Flock’s original intent for Animal Farm as well as the next phase in their Mitchell College partnership as the resident theatre company. Due to Animal Farm’s political themes and reader’s theatre style, it is the company’s hope to package the production for various communities to construct, produce, and perform themselves; making exciting theatre accessible to all.”

The performances are in reader’s theater style, and the actors will wear animal masks designed by Heather Asch, a four-time Emmy-winning puppeteer whose credits include The Jim Henson Company and Sesame Workshop.

“Animal Farm,” The Mitchell College Red Barn, 629-A Montauk Ave., New London; opens Friday and runs through Jan. 26; 7 p.m. Fri.-Sun.; $15, $5 for students, seniors and active military; www.flocktheatre.org.
