East Lyme Puppetry Project presents Humpty Dumpty show

The East Lyme Puppetry Project is presenting its first puppetry show since the pandemic began.

This time, with COVID safety in mind, the performance will be at Niantic Center School’s outdoor play area. (If it rains, things will move inside the school gym, where ELPPI will urge families to “mask up.”)

Taking center stage will be “Humpty Dumpty & Friends’ EGGcellent Puppet Show” performed by Ronny Wasserstrom, who is based in New York City.

The puppets are marionettes, and the event promises to be very interactive.

The set-up: Humpty Dumpty is trying some physical feats where he doesn’t crack up and need to be put back together again. He shows the kids in the crowd how to do some of those tricks. Ms. Humpty manages to outshine him.

And then a scarecrow turns up and needs the crowd’s help in figuring out how to deal with being in town instead of on the farm.

Finally, Wasserstrom will bring out mini-marionettes that can be handled by young audience members. The afternoon concludes with a “puppet party” featuring the children.

“Humpty Dumpty & Friends’ EGGcellent Puppet Show,” 2 p.m. Sunday, Niantic Center School, 7 West Main St., Niantic; tickets $7; elppi.org.
