Hilda (Nelson) Sangster, 93, of Essex, died on April 4 at Aaron Manor Healthcare in Chester. She was the beloved wife of the late William Sangster. She was born in East Hampton, daughter of the late Sven and Johanna (Olsen) Nelson. She had resided in Essex since 1942 and had owned the So & Sew Shop in Essex for 25 years. She had also served as treasurer for the Essex Garden Club, secretary for the Riverview Cemetery Association, and had been an Altar Guild member at St. John's Episcopal Church in Essex. During the war, she was awarded the Appreciation Award under the War Finance Program by the U.S. Treasury Department.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Harriet G. Sangster of Essex; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her step-sons Douglas W. and Donald Sangster; her step-daughter-in-law Elizabeth; her sister Elsie Larson; and her brothers Rudolph and Raymond Nelson.

Funeral Services were held on April 9 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Essex. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, Box 422, Essex, CT 06426. The Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook, was in charge of arrangements.
