Require artistic vandal to clean up his act

Hooray to Alan Bentz's guest commentary titled "Stonington's pink rock an eyesore," published April 19. His commentary was in response to the David Collins column titled "Stonington's painted rock: Is it art or eyesore?" published April 7.

We, too, feel that a clean-up of this environmental eyesore should be conducted, irrespective of cost and paid for by the "culprit" through some form of restitution.

We live on Quiambaug Cove and pass this rock as we enter and exit the cove regularly. When our children were small they called this site "Scallop Rock."

Recently we experienced their children asking why the rock was painted as it is. No good reason could be offered.

If nothing is done this cycle will surely - and irresponsibly - repeat itself. Action needs to be taken to: 1) restore the current "eyesore" to its former natural state and 2) through this action discourage other "associations of artists" from illegally advancing their expressions up and down Long Island Sound. White Rock could be next.
