Machinist's Mate First Class Zachary Shafer was introduced to his daughter, Jesse, for the first time by his wife, Michelle, on the pier as his sub, the USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720) returned to the U.S. Navy Submarine Base in Groton Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
Groton - Crewmen on the Los Angeles class attack submarine USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720) heaved on the line to pull the sub's shore power lines off the pier as the sub docked at the U.S. Navy Submarine Base in Groton Friday.
The Pittsburgh's 134 crew members made port calls in Scotland, Norway, England and France while conducting operations in the European Command area during a six-month deployment.
