Lyme — The Board of Finance will hold a public hearing Monday on the 2012-13 town government budget, which is proposed at $8,657,809, a 2.56 percent decrease over the current budget.

The public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Hamburg Fire Station.

If approved at the May 25 town meeting, the budget would keep the tax rate at the current 13.5 mills.

The cost of running the town next year is budgeted at $8,114,786, while capital expenses are projected at $543,023. Town officials are expecting total income next year to be $8,540,989 and plan to draw $116,820 from its surplus account to balance the budget and keep the tax rate flat, First Selectman Ralph Eno said.

Meanwhile, residents will vote on the Lyme-Old Lyme school budget Tuesday at a referendum specifically for that regional school district’s budget. Lyme’s share of the school budget is $5,885,453, a 0.38 percent increase over the current budget.
