Madison Rotary Club Students of the Year

Also pictured at the ceremony were (second row) DHHS English teacher Lisa Landa and Principal Barbara Britton, Polson English teacher Martha Curran, Robert Dess, Acting Superintendent of Madison Public Schools Anita Rutlin, and Christine Beirne and (back row) Madison Rotary Club President-elect Jean Ferris, Laura Crawford, Kathleen Dess, Polson Principal Frank Henderson, Brown Principal Julianne Phelps, Brown science teacher Deb Thomas, Brian Beirne, and Rotary program coordinator Arthur Criddle.

The Madison Rotary Club proudly designated (from left, front) Madison Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) student Katherine Adams, Polson Middle School student Alina Dess, and Brown Middle School student Roisin Beirne, as 2012 Student of the Year of their school. The students were recommended for the awards by school faculty and administration following a vigorous application process. Flower bouquets were presented to parents along with memento coins embossed with the Rotary Four Way Test, the ethical guideposts embraced by the 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide-Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Each student received a $100 bond donated by the Guilford Saving Bank and a personal plaque and also had her name engraved on a larger plaque, which is on permanent display at her school.
