The voice on the other end of the phone was a happy Mike Thibault, who spent early Wednesday night on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, the city's center for food and fun.

"Going for Mexican food," he said, "and probably feeling bad about it three hours later."

Thibault is the coach of the latest team in the WNBA to clinch a playoff berth. The Connecticut Sun, who play San Antonio tonight (8 p.m., no TV) qualified for their eighth playoff berth in 10 seasons Tuesday in Chicago. The Sun's 83-72 win exacted some revenge on the Sky, who upset the Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena last Sunday.

"I was very happy with how we played," Thibault said. "It was all good."

Well, mostly good, anyway.

The Sun did sustain another injury, this time to forward Mistie Mims, who pulled a muscle in her quad. Thibault said Mims should miss about a week. Mims joins Asjha Jones (strained Achilles) who has missed Connecticut's last six games.

"Maybe Kalana (Greene) will be a post player (today), I don't know," Thibault said. "Before Asjha got hurt, we were playing three posts anyway, Tina (Charles), Asjha and Mistie. Now it's Tina, Jess (Moore) and Kelsey (Griffin). It's a little different."

The Sun's next task: secure their fourth Eastern Conference regular season title in franchise history and homecourt throughout the conference playoffs. The Sun lead second-place Indiana by 2.5 games.

Connecticut (18-6) defeated San Antonio earlier this season at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Silver Stars (17-7) are one of the league's best teams, trailing first-place Minnesota in the Western Conference by three games and second-place Los Angeles by 1.5.

"They have two great players in Becky (Hammon) and Sophia (Young)," Thibault said. "They surround them with people who complement their talent, like Jia Perkins and Shameka Christon. (Point guard) Danielle Robinson is a terrific defender and their posts are unique. (Jayne) Appel is big and strong and (Danielle) Adams steps out beyond the 3 (point line) and makes you play differently."

Sun re-signs White

Connecticut announced Wednesday that it signed guard Tan White to a one-year contract extension.

As per team policy, terms were not released.

"I am really happy to be returning to the Sun next year," White said in a press release. "Playing in Connecticut has been a great experience for me. I really enjoy playing in front of the best fans in the WNBA."

Originally signed as an unrestricted free agent on June 19, 2009, White joined the Sun after four seasons with the Indiana Fever. In her fourth season with Connecticut, White is averaging 4.8 points and is second on the team in 3-point shooting at 36.4 percent (16 of 44).

In the three seasons prior to this year, White averaged 8.4 points in 98 games.
