Tefft making an impression

The tattoo reality competition show "Ink Master," featuring Groton tattoo artist Steve Tefft (above), premiered Tuesday on Spike TV.

Tefft, owner of 12 Tattoos and Body Piercing in Groton, survived the show's first elimination challenge. His work was named as one of the top two tattoos among the 16 contestants.

Tefft, 42, was among 10,000 people who tried out for the show in New Jersey this summer.

Contestants are battling for a grand prize of $100,000, bragging rights and a feature in the magazine Inked. The show airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. This year's show offers an interactive element that allows people to vote on contestants' tattoos each week at www.spiketv.com.
