Police: Body of missing kayaker found in river

Stratford (AP) - Connecticut officials say a body recovered from the mouth of the Housatonic River has been identified as a kayaker missing more than a week.

State environmental police said Monday night the body was that of 21-year-old Jet Krumwiede of Milford. He had been missing since his kayak overturned Oct. 28 in rough waters in Long Island Sound.

Police said his body was recovered after a Corps of Engineers worker saw it in the river at about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Krumwiede's companion on the kayaking excursion, 21-year-old James Root of Milford, told police Krumwiede was tossed from his kayak near Silver Sands State Park as they were paddling back to shore from Charles Island. Root tried to help him, but himself had to be rescued by the Milford Fire Department.
