    Consider takeover of power utilities

To those who believe "business does it better than government," once again reality has demonstrated the answer is "not always."

The small, government-owned Groton City, Norwich and Jewett City utility companies had minimal outages that were quickly repaired while CL&P's business "leadership" once again demonstrated they can't find their rear ends with both hands. Yes, the municipal utilities have much smaller areas to cover but, with a much smaller work force sized to their area of coverage.

CL&P management has cut their workforce of linemen and other customer service employees to far below appropriate levels in order to maximize their profits. The municipal utilities not only charge their customers less but also return a profit to their municipalities. Enough is enough. Perhaps it is time for the state to exercise eminent domain and take CL&P from Northeast Utilities and show government can do it better.
