Kids Go Crazy for Tennis at Kids' Play Day

Kids learn how to hit backhands at Kids' Play Day at Lyme Shores Tennis & Conditioning Center.

On November 10, Lyme Shores Tennis & Conditioning Center in East Lyme was abuzz with kids getting their first taste of tennis. Kids' Play Day was a free event, open to kids of all levels, ages 5-16. Kids who had never played before got the opportunity to step on the court and see what it was all about.

Pros George Ulrich, Andre Danford, Jared Pearl and Bobby Schlink provided instruction on technique while engaging the kids in fun drills.

Tricia Morales brought her son Xeriah, who had never played before. "The instructors were fun and full of energy," she said. "My son learned a lot, and I think that is a credit to the instructors."

After a snack break, the music came on, and the kids showed off their new skills. They played games against each other, hitting the ball back and forth across the net.

"This was a great way to spend a Saturday," said Miranda Cahill, whose children Annalyn and Shea took part. "They don't get a chance to play a lot of tennis, so this has been a good opportunity."

Kids' Play Day was a fun-filled event where kids spent an afternoon exercising, making new friends, and taking on new challenges. According to Danford, who also serves as the Director of Junior Programs at Lyme Shores, "All the parents and kids were very enthusiastic, and we can't wait to do it again."
