UConn, Maryland women to play in Jimmy V Classic

UConn's first matchup with Maryland in women's basketball will be a nationally televised one, as the teams - UConn ranked second in the country and Maryland 11th - meet today in the Jimmy V Classic at the XL Center in Hartford (7 p.m., ESPN2).

UConn coach Geno Auriemma announced this week that sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis will return to the starting lineup, having missed a game last week due to the after effects of a concussion.

She will join fellow starters Kelly Faris, Bria Hartley, Stefanie Dolson and Breanna Stewart, while bumping fifth-year senior Caroline Doty to the bench. Mosqueda-Lewis is averaging 16.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Huskies (6-0).

Maryland, meanwhile (4-1), has had a lineup shake-up for a different reason. Junior guard Lauren Mincy, a preseason All-ACC selection, tore her ACL last Wednesday night against Nebraska and will miss the rest of the regular season.

The Terps, who already lost starting point guard Brene Moseley to an ACL injury in October, are down to eight players.

What Maryland does have, however are preseason All-ACC players Tianna Hawkins (19.8 points, 10.0 rebounds per game) and Alyssa Thomas (13.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and the nation's lead in rebounding margin at plus-22.6.

UConn is averaging 92.0 points per game, the highest since 2008-09.
