Williams leads UConn's list of Big East honorees

Defensive end Trevardo Williams, UConn's all-time leader in sacks, was a unanimous selection to the All-Big East Conference football team on Thursday.

The senior from Bridgeport, a second-team pick in 2011, earned first-team honors this season after finishing with 11.5 sacks and leading the Big East with .96 sacks per game. He finished his career with 30.5 sacks.

Williams was one of three UConn defenders to earn first-team honors and one of eight Huskies to earn a spot on the two teams. He was joined on the first team by a pair of linebackers, senior Sio Moore and sophomore Yawin Smallwood.

Making the second team were senior offensive guard Adam Masters, senior right end Ryan Griffin, senior return specialist Nick Williams, senior cornerback Dwayne Gratz and senior defensive back Blidi Wreh-Wilson.

Moore finished with eight sacks and led the Huskies with 15.5 tackles for loss while Smallwood led UConn with 120 total tackles, including 15 tackles for loss.

The Big East also announced its individual award winners. Louisville sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was named Offensive Player of the Year, Rutgers linebacker Khaseem Greene was named Defensive Player of the Year, Temple's Matt Brown was named Special Teams Player of the Year and Temple linebacker Tyler Matakevich was named Rookie of the Year.

Louisville's Charlie Strong and Rutgers' Kyle Flood shared Coach of the Year honors.
