New Route 82 coffee shop in Norwich will be Starbucks

Norwich - The new drive-through coffee shop on Route 82 near I-395 Exit 80 interchange will be the city's first Starbucks.

Essex developer Henry Resnikoff received approval in fall from the Commission on the City Plan to tear down two small houses at 88-90 Salem Turnpike and build a coffee shop with a drive-through window and parking lot. Entering traffic would use the access road to the Thomas Mahan School, which has a traffic light at the Salem Turnpike-Route 82 intersection.

On Thursday, Pratt LLC, with Resnikoff listed as a company member, purchased the property for $280,000, according to city real estate records. Pratt also immediately filed a 10-year lease with Starbucks Corp. The tenant has the right to renew for four consecutive five-year periods.

Pratt also obtained a construction loan from Chelsea Groton Bank for $787,350 on the property.
